PEDREF Pediatric Reference Intervals Initiative

The PEDREF study is a multicenter study aimed at creating the next generation of pediatric reference intervals using an indirect method for laboratory analytes to improve children's health assessment.

To establish pediatric reference intervals, the PEDREF study uses data mining approaches to obtain indirect pediatric laboratory data from the laboratory information systems of 12 German care centers and laboratory service providers.

The study has developed a collaborative database containing data from over 15,000,000 children aged 0-18 years. To date, age- and sex-specific reference intervals have been established for a number of biochemical and hematology analytes.
